AIM
The purpose of stomach botox is to contribute to weight loss by taking advantage of the effect of a drug called botolinum toxin by applying it to certain parts of the stomach. The gastric fundus and the antrum preploric region are the target areas at this point. The stomach fundus is the region that releases the appetite hormone we call gyrelin. This hormone can cause uncontrolled consumption of food that we like to taste. With botox applied to this area, the release of this hormone is inhibited and appetite is suppressed. The second target point is the antrum exit of the stomach preploruic region. The importance of this region is the management point of gastric emptying. In normal healthy people, the gastric emptying rate is every 3 to 4 hours. If we open a little more, we will get hungry every 3-4 hours. With botox applied to this area, we increase the gastric emptying time to 8 to 10 hours. This creates a feeling of fullness in the stomach and encourages less food intake. As a result, the patient’s appetite decreased with the application to these two regions, and a feeling of fullness occurs in his stomach. This contributes to our patient’s compliance with the nutrition program we will apply.
